Periodontal disease can be a deadly infection. One of the main causes of Periodontal Disease is created by your immune system. In response to the bacteria, your immune system produces toxins that affect the gums, connective ligaments, and underlying bone. Dental Exam
During your routine appointment, Dr. Bijan Modjtahedi will perform a comprehensive exam. This includes a thorough exam of your teeth, gums, and mouth to look for decay and other dental problems. The goal of a dental exam is to prevent, diagnose, and treat issues before they become major complications.
Your exam may also include the use of digital x-rays. An x-ray will give us an in-depth look at your teeth and underlying bone. With x-rays, we can identify minor instances of decay and periodontal disease so that they can be treated as soon as possible.
Professional Cleaning
Before or after your exam, our dental hygienist will perform a professional cleaning. During your cleaning, we will remove plaque and tartar (calcified plaque) deposits from the surfaces of your teeth and roots.
Once your teeth have been properly scaled, we will finish the procedure with a polish. The polish will remove minor stains and restore the sheen of your smile. If we notice any minor signs of decay and disease, we may review proper brushing and flossing techniques with you before you leave the office.
You will be provided with a high quality tooth brush, floss, and other tools for your oral health.
