Fillings are incredibly common tooth restorations that are used to treat cavities. While we can tell you if you need a filling during your dental exam, if you are between appointments, you may find yourself wondering if you have a cavity that requires treatment. These are some of the top signs that you need to come to our office to get a cavity filled.Tooth PainThe most common sign that you have a cavity is a toothache. Your toothache may include throbbing pain, sensitivity to temperature extremes, or pain when biting down. Home remedies and the use of over-the-counter pain killers may provide some relief, but it won't correct the problem. You will likely need treatment in the form of a filing. Fractures and Craze LinesIf your tooth breaks, fractures, or features craze lines, you should definitely visit our office to see if you need a filling. Treating these problems with a filling can prevent future decay and damage that could compromise the health and structure of your tooth. Changes in the Appearance of Your TeethIn addition to cracks and breaks, some other visual signs may indicate that you need a filling to correct a cavity. The most common include holes in the teeth, but you may also notice dark spots on the affected tooth. If it becomes difficult to floss around a tooth and the floss tears, you may have a problem, and treatment may also be required if food always tends to get trapped between certain teeth. Likewise, if you previously had a filling and it has been broken or damaged, you will likely need a replacement filling. Do you suspect that you may have a cavity that needs to be filled? If so, please give our office a call today to set up an appointment. |
