One of the best ways to instill good oral hygiene in your children is to serve as a good example. Your children will watch what you do, and this includes how you care for your teeth. Lead by example and follow these steps to care for your teeth properly.Brush Twice Per DayOne of the easiest things you can do to set a positive oral hygiene example is to brush your teeth twice per day. However, it isn't enough to simply run the brush across your teeth. You also have to use the right technique. Hold your brush at an angle so that you brush the gum line, and brush gently but firmly. Use toothpaste with fluoride to further strengthen your teeth. Floss RegularlyIn addition to brushing, you also need to floss your teeth at least once per day. Flossing is important in order to remove food particles, plaque, and bacteria that are trapped between the teeth. Without removing this debris, gum disease and cavities can occur. Care for Your Teeth While Playing SportsIf you play sports, it is important to protect your teeth from trauma and injury. In many activities, you may wish to wear a mouth guard or a sports guard to protect your mouth. Your children can follow your example by wearing their own mouth guards during their activities.
